Mark & Laura's wedding was our last of 2011 and summed the year up perfectly,gorgeous couple,great venue & great laughs. Mitton Hall was the venue and as always the staff where super helpful and the venue again looked superb cant wait for our 2012 weddings here. Its a strange feeling shooting the last wedding of the year (dont know why) but I always feel a bit nostalgic & excited for the year to come, anyway as for 2011 weddings... what a wedding to end on.

Well its always a strange feeling as I finish shooting our last wedding of 2011, I start to remember all the things that made this year special I suppose it's watching all the tv programmes that show the year that was. So as I look through the year on the blog so many memories come back.... the great venues,celebrations and not forgetting new friends. I think the high point has to be the awards, being awarded Professional Wedding Photographer of the year for the fourth year running was a huge honour, to be applauded by clients is what we work to achieve but to be applauded by your fellow professionals IS the ultimate goal and as the list of stories of poor wedding photography and couples left upset grows then it makes the late nights and missed family life all worth while when not only our clients are recommending our services but our industry and fellow professionals are asking "what's our secret".
We had the pleasure of shooting nearly 50 weddings this year (10 more than I said I would) with clients from all over the world, different styles from outdoor garden parties to grand banquets but all have been the same.... Fun!
So what of 2012, well already the wheels are turning, we have some great weddings in more new venues and more challenges & opportunities with our industry partners that really excite me (more info to follow in the new year) but most of all I am looking forward to taking my photography further & blogging more including "behind the scenes" showing how & why we do what we do in our new photo diary.
So goodbye to 2011... Hello to 2012 and a happy new year to you all.

Wedding Photography at The Grange Hotel, Grange.

Well it’s the time of year that everybody gets excited for Christmas but we had something different to get excited about, Carl & Lisa wedding at The Grange Hotel in Grange Over Sands in one of my favourite parts of the world the Lake District. Saying that we weren’t too excited as we left for the hotel… it snowed,& snowed & snowed at one point we thought we wouldn’t get there but as we approached Grange the snow disappeared & out came the sun and out it stayed for our time in the Lakes. Jane & I had the pleasure of spending the night before Carl & Lisa wedding at the hotel with their family and guests and what a friendly bunch. The ceremony was held at Cartmel Priory with a picturesque drive back to the hotel for mulled wine. Carl & Lisa along with their families had planned the wedding for two years and as the fun, laughter & tears of emotion filled the day I have to say it was worth the wait.

Matthew & Rebecca’s wedding date was special, why? They married at 11am on the 11th of November 2011, infact Rebecca walked up the aisle at 11mins past so that’s 11.11 on 11.11.11. The other thing that made their day memorable was the dress, WOW.
Their reception was at the chic Stanley House in Mellor, this is a fantastic venue for me I just love the contemporary look & feel of this venue and it make for amazing images.

Wedding Photography at Carden Park: Wayne & Angela

A beautiful Autumnal morning greeted Jane & I as we arrived at Angela’s early… very early to be precise for her bridal prep and I met Wayne at St Marys Church in the centre of Leigh ready for their 11am wedding. St Marys really dominates Leigh town centre and is an impressive setting for a wedding. The reception was at Carden Park, a place we seem to be photographing quite a lot, surrounded by golf courses & gorgeous gardens (think somebody is telling me to take up golf) it made a great backdrop for Wayne & Angela’s photographs.

Excited and Emotional... the best two words to describe Jonathan & Andrea's big day. Its always special to finally photograph the wedding of somebody who has been involved with other wedding we have shot as was the case here, Jonathan was an usher & Andrea bridesmaid for her brothers wedding Jane & I shot earlier in the year (David & Denise's Wedding) and as we arrived at Andrea's in the morning it was like meeting old friends, in fact thats how the whole day felt. Jonathan & Andrea day had everything they wished for, Andrea's horse & carraige, beautiful Weather, great atmosphere......

When your given a gorgeous couple like Robin & Melissa, a beautiful venue like Nunsmere Hall and a great atmosphere then you have all the elements for a great wedding... oh the elements, nearly forgot that the rain showed up to frustrate my plans for photos EVERYWHERE. The gardens at Nunsmere Hall are fab for photos and it was frustrating that we couldn't get outside but then again I wouldn't have got the beautiful images that I shot inside.Nevermind the champagne flowed & with everybody in great spirits made for a superb wedding.

So… there you are planning your ‘autumn wedding’ warm suits,wraps etc then comes along a heatwave!!!!, can only be the English weather. Matt & Emma are the most relaxed people I have met & take everything in their stride, but on this day all will agree a few nerves were on show as Matt waited for Emma at the picturesque St Marys Church in Ecclestone Village. The reception was at Kilhey Court with guests adding to a great atmosphere and great speeches. Then to top everything a spectacular firework display really got the evening party started. A great day meeting up with 'The Parkers' and making a few new friends on the way.

Regular visitors to my blog will know just how much I love photographing weddings, it’s the people, the locations, the emotions and all the weddings Jane & I have photographed have been clients… until now.
I first met Mark really when I started in photography…. Er a few years ago when he worked at Spicer Hallfield who then supplied our albums & our friendship grew through the lows of Spicers demise & the highs of Mark now being a bigwig at Hasselblad (anybody,ANYBODY who loves photography will know Hasselblad, they are the Rolls Royce of cameras) and very much involved in my other love fashion photography. Rhiannon is one of the warmest, friendliest people I have had the pleasure to meet & dare I say Mark is a lucky man.
Mark & Rhiannons wedding was so special & to be so close to a wonderful couple on the start of a new journey was special.
The wedding was at the picturesque St Nicholas Church in Lillingstone Dayrell in Buckinghamshire ( this church has the most fantastic/crazy vicar ever) & on to Whittlebury Hall near Silverstone (it’s the hotel that the F1 teams stay at…its very posh).Meeting up with our friends from Hasselblad & some amazing photographers made the day (and evening) fly by.

I Love photographing Weddings, I LOVE photographing the Lake District, put the two together & for me you have something special. Michael & Selma were not happy with one beautiful location of the Netherwood Hotel in Grange Over Sands they wanted two with the gorgeous St Annes Church in Haverthwaite along with its friendly vicar.Selma looked stunning in her Ian Stuart dress (Michael scrubbed up aswell as we say in Wigan) & could have spent hour photographing them, but as we had a tight schedule I couldn't get carried away.I have said many time my favourite part of a wedding is the speeches & when Selma brother gave his speech on behalf of their Father it was from the heart & extra special all toped of with an hilarious Bestmans speech that kept both Jane & myself laughing all the way home

there where two big wishes for this day.... one that Wigan Rugby Club would win the challenge cup & long time season ticket holders the Critchley family would be there to see this & mine was a day full of sun & joy, well as Katie had chosen her wedding to take place on the day of the challenge cup & in the morning the rain was torrential it looked like we would both be disappointed, but as Craig arrived at the gorgeous St Wilfrids Church in Standish out came the sun & out it stayed for photos in the gardens at Farrington Lodge in Leyland. Both Jane & I had a great time, not only photographing Craig & Katie but also their family & friends it was a great wedding.

ooh!! & yes Katie watched the rugby & Wigan won!!!!! and in the interest of happy families Craigs beloved Preston North End won aswell, Happy days :-)

Its been quite a journey for Jane & I towards Neil & Kate’s wedding, they had been guests at so many wedding we had photographed and now it was their turn. The weather wasn’t really on our side but I have to say Kate never stopped smiling all day (leaving the biggest smile as she walked up the aisle with her proud Dad and saw Neil).
This wedding was really special for us with so many of our previous Bride & Grooms at this wedding it really was like photographing friends and add to that the fantastic surroundings of Mitton Hall (just aswell we love this venue, its turning into our second home) then we had all we need for fantastic images.

When I first met Stephen & Nicky and as they talked me through their dream wedding day & how it would run I thought to myself ‘ if half of what they had planned worked then this would be a wedding to remember’ well guess what EVERYTHING ran exactly as they wished. My brief was to photograph a wedding based on a vintage English garden party and as Stephen & Nicky arrived at West Tower in the most gorgeous MKii Jaguar (oh what a car) we where greeted by what can only be described as your dream vintage English Garden Party complete with band, games, picnic table, bunting…. So many things you didn’t know where to start. As guests enjoyed the party we slipped off for photos in a nearby cornfield where Stephen & Nicky’s love just shone, oh & regarding thinking of everything what about the shoes… will they get dirty … oh no!!! Nicky had organised some personalised Converse trainers!!! My god they thought of EVERYTHING!
One of my Highlights of the year was handing Stephen & Nicky a few props & saying ‘show me your personality’ WOW! What fun.

Ross & Catherines wedding took place at St Boniface Church in Bunbury in Cheshire & their reception at Carden Park & as we visited both locations it was clear why. Bunbury is your typical postcard English village & not one but two vicars who really where a joy to work with and very helpful. This was our first visit to Carden Park (the golfers that read this blog will know how famous in the golfing world this venue is) and as a wedding photographer you really are spoiled for choice, add to that a couple who are so ‘in love’ that Jane & I had a blast.

Belle Epoque Wedding of Simon & Elizabeth

This was our first visit to the 'uber chic' Belle Epoque in Knutsford & what a wedding we chose.It was (so far) the hottest day of the year which is a bit surreal as Simon (who is a cool photographer) & Elizabeth live in Norway and are probably more used to the weather we normally get but with a bit of snow thrown in for good luck.Anyway as we photographed guests chatting in the roof top gardens the sun shone & champagne flowed then it was time for the ceremony & this is when tradition took a back seat. Elizabeth was escorted up the aisle in a stunning dress by Simon looking equally as smart for a very emotion & personal ceremony then photo time. On a previous meeting I had found a really cool area for some shots so off we went stoping traffic & shoppers for some beautiful images.So for a first visit the Belle Epoque along with Simon & Elizabeth did us proud, cant wait for our next visit....

Peckforton Castle Weddings: Nadim & Hayley

When Nadim & Hayley walked out of the chapel as man & Wife there was a huge wave of happiness & Love, this wedding had been quite a challenge to organise not only with Hayley living in America & so many activities on the day... but then throw in a fire & possibly changing everything then you can understand why everybody was smiling. My aim was to provide photographs of a fairytale wedding with a quintessential English feel, after all the wedding was at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire (how much more English & fairytale can you get than a castle) & wow did we deliver. This was one of the most relaxed weddings I have shot with a real family feel to the day.

Wrightington Hotel Wedding Photography with Stuart & Suzanne

The weather forcast for Stuart & Suzanne’s Wedding was, shall we say not the best & as Stuart & the guests arrived in the rain it looked like it was to be a damp affair, but as the gorgeous Suzanne arrived out came the sun ‘Hurray!!!’
The Wedding Reception was at Wrightington Hotel & Country Club, another fave venue infact so nice the ‘infamous’ Classic Photography Christmas Party is held here.
One thing that always makes me smile is when clients comment on our facebook page & for so long Suzanne has commented on our previous weddings & now its her turn to be in the limelight, so for that reason this was an extra special day.

This was one of those 'FUN' weddings from start to finish David arriving full of excitement & a new walking cane & ending with tears of laughter at the speeches. David & Denise are a fun couple & as the one liners flowed the day flew by. The reception was at Haigh Hall its so local to our home we can see it & is one of my face locations, great venue, very friendly staff & great food. I have to say the light was superb all day, the colour gorgeous, David & Denise are fantastic wedding organisers, or as David said Denise did a fantastic job. I had been looking forward to photographing this gorgeous couple ever since the pre wedding shoot a few weeks ago, and it didn't disappoint.

West Tower for Frank & Samantha's Wedding

Wedding photography at West Tower in Aughton is always a joy but this wedding was extra special.Samantha was Chief Bridesmaid for her sister Louise when she was married to Damien at West Tower so it was an extra honour when Frank & Samantha asked Jane and myself to photograph theirs (phew no pressure). This was a very emotional wedding, just how I like them, with Sam being escorted up the aisle by her Mum & a speech by Louise all in the gorgeous surroundings of West Tower & Frank & his Bestman & mates providing a good bit of banter.All in all a great day.

Well, first of all sorry for the lack of posting but to say it has been busy is an understatement, over the last 2 weeks we have shot 5 weddings,2 large commercial jobs, oh & been awarded the North West Master Photographer of the year... the highest award that a North West Professional Photographer can receive. Anyway back to the day Job, Ian & Claire's wedding was a real party afair, fun guests,laughter, train rides, & bands at our second home Haigh Hall. One of the best parts of my job is meeting up with our past (and future) Bride & Grooms at great weddings add in great company, a great couple & perfect lighting then you have one happy snapper.

As a Lancashire wedding photographer photographing weddings all over the North West this was our first visit to Mytton Fold for Jane & I to photograph John & Emma's wedding. We first met Emma as a wedding coordinator at a different hotel (no pressure then) but today was her day,unfortunately due to the changeable weather the wedding had to transferred inside at the last minute but that didn't change anything of a fun & emotional wedding ending with secret waiters, singers disguised as waiters & the blast into song & get EVERYBODY in party mode.

I have been a Wedding Photographer in Wigan for nearly 18 years now shooting nearly 1000 weddings but this is the first time I have been allowed to shoot a wedding at my local church, Wigan Parish Church. The history of the church really is the history of wigan, the motto ancient & loyal has is roots in this church. Ancient as the oldest royal charter in the country & loyal as we held out against the parliament forces in the English Civil war (infact the last stand was by royalist snipers on the top of the church spire) anyway history lesson over..... Ian & Jane's wedding was a real local & friendly do, and their hospitality was amazing a real joy to photograph & with the reception at the impressive Haigh Hall (fast becoming our second home) made for some great images.

Ben & Nicola's wedding was fun & had a little of everything, laughter,tears & surprises (a VW camper that the couple holidayed in to take the bridesmaids to church) even the weather held out for long enough. A great day ended with some funny speeches. Ben & Nicola are a beautiful couple very much in love and a joy to photograph. All in all a great day

A gorgeous sunny day greeted Jane & I as we arrived at Julia’s house & one thing that always makes me smile as I arrive at a brides house is the feeling of anticipation, the feeling of excitement running thru the air. Dan & Julia are a beautiful couple & fun to be around & we had a blast in the stunning gardens at Kilhey Court Hotel shooting some fantastic images all topped of with a stunning sunset. A 10 piece band finished of the day with ALL of us on the dance floor, and yes I mean all (I really should learn I cant dance!!!!)

Mitton Hall for Rob & Rachael's Wedding

Wedding photography in Lancashire doesn't get much better than a warm summers day, a beautiful location as & the stunning Mitton Hall then add to that the gorgeous Robin & Rachael who where a joy to photograph. Jane arrived to a very calm house as Rachael was getting ready & I arrived at church to meet up with Rob, the bestman & Ushers full of laughter. St Leonards Chruch in Walton Le Dale is beautiful & has a very photographer friendly vicar (some vicars have had to endure photographers ruining the service & this causes a backlash to photographers like me who are very discreet during the service).
The welcome at Mitton Hall is always warm & accommodating & our time flew by ending with very funny & emotional speeches all giving a day full of memories for Rob & Rachael to take back to their home in Dubai.

If I was asked to say why I love shooting weddings then Simon & Kathryn’s wedding would be my reply,why, because it had everything I love about my job. It had a gorgeous bride & groom, a stunning venue, great lighting & lots of old friends whose weddings we have shot over the years & a few we are to shoot. (Kathryn had been a bridesmaid at a few of our previous weddings now it was her turn to be the star)
The stunning Rowton Castle in Shropshire was the venue after a lovely ceremony at Wem parish church ( we arrived just in time for the coffee morning at church… mmm coffee & biscuits)
This was our first visit to Rowton Castle & it’s a gorgeous background for wedding photography but then again as Simon & Kathryn never stopped smiling & are so in love then we really couldn’t go wrong.

Jonathan & Victoria's Wedding at the Uber Chic Stanley House Hotel, Mellor

Well that was Christmas,New Year & even January the last 5 weeks have literally flown, well they do say time flys when your having fun. Jonathan & Victoria’s wedding was our first of 2011 & we seem to have started on a high, with the stunning St Wilfrids Church in Standish & then onto the uber chic Stanley House in Mellor and glamour was the order of the day with Victoria looking stunning (Jonathan scrubed up as well, as we say in the north)
One of the joys of this wedding was meeting up with previous Bride & Grooms & seeing them now complete with kids, how time flys, doesnt seem two minutes since we shot their weddings, and all the guests throwing confetti of the stairs onto the couple……… as we left, Stanley House where still sweeping up the confetti….SORRY, but it was an amazing photo :-)

A Snowy Wedding at the Netherwood Hotel, Grange Over Sands

Martin & Caroline’s wedding was at the stunning Netherwood Hotel, Grange Over Sands in the gorgeous Lake District & one of the things I love about weddings in all one place is the relaxed atmosphere that surrounds the day. A crisp snowy day greeted us as we arrived at the hotel as Caroline & her bridesmaids where getting ready & if she had any nerves she never showed them. Martin & Caroline are great hosts & thanks go to their hospitality for a great wedding day.

Rhys & Nicola's wedding at the Tithe Barn, Meols Hall, Southport

For a full week before Rhys & Nicola’s wedding the weather was ‘rather cold’ to say the least, parts of the UK where under inches of snow so we dreaded what the weekend would bring, so waking up to the most gorgeous, sunny & dare I say warm day was a joy. When Jane & I arrived at Nicola’s parents house all I could hear as I rang the door bell was laughing & the laughing never really stopped.
Rhys & Nicola’s wedding was at Meols Hall in Southport, a beautiful venue in a beautiful part of the world, throw in guests who were fun to be around & a couple very much in love & a joy to photograph and you have a very happy photographer.Thanks to Rhys & Nicola for a fantastic day, you guys where great.Dx

Richard & Rebecca's Wedding at Iscoyd Park, Whitchurch

Sometimes you have to go with your instincts & this was the case when Richard & Rebecca first visited Iscoyd Park in Whitchurch as it was literally a building site, since that first visit I have to say it has transformed into a stunning wedding venue. Iscoyd Park has great photo locations, very helpful staff & run by a fantastic couple who just want people to enjoy their day, add to that a great couple who love photography and you have everything you need for the perfect wedding.
This time of the year weddings can be challenging as you have not only the weather & cold to contend with but also the sun goes down very early but on the plus side the lighting & colours are amazing.

An Autumn Wedding at Farington Lodge,Leyland

I was recently asked when was my favourite time of the year to which I answered ‘Autumn’, but why? Well not only are the colours truly amazing, the lighting gorgeous but I am also a pretty impatient bloke & in autumn you don’t have to wait long for the light to change from sun to sunset,overcast to moody.
Now don’t get me wrong shooting weddings in autumn can be a challenge, but then its challenges that take my photography forward.
Ian & Lorraine’s wedding had the one other thing that makes weddings perfect ‘atmosphere’ and bags of it, starting with an emotional ceremony & ending on a real fun get together with all their friends & family. Their wedding took place at Farington Lodge in Leyland, a venue I hadn’t been for quite a while. The colours in the garden where beautiful & made for a special backdrop for a special day.

Ciaran & Nina's Wedding at Thornton Manor

Ciaran & Nina’s wedding found us back at one of our favourite wedding venues the stunning Thornton Manor. The weather was perfect & Nina, I have to say looked amazing in a gorgeous Jenny Packham dress bringing a tear to everybody’s eyes as she walked into the room for the ceremony. I am asked what makes a great wedding on numerous occasions & every time the answer is the same, it’s the guests, they make the atmosphere and the fun & this was just so on this wedding we really never stopped laughing.
One thing I do love at Thornton Manor is the way the Bride & Groom enter the room to their choice on loud music (this time a Stone Roses classic) it really gets everybody up & cheering. Our coverage ended with great speeches, straight from the heart a lovely way to end a unbelievably good month for Jane & Myself…. Now onto the UK Photographer of the year award ceremony.

Andrew & Heathers Wedding at Soughton Hall

Andrew & Heather where a joy to photograph, why because they knew just how important good images of their wedding are, and boy did they deliver. This was my first visit to Soughton Hall in Northop, and you cant help but fall in love with this stunning venue. The staff, the food, the rooms and that’s before you walk around the gardens, it really is a photographers dream venue.
This wedding was on a high when we arrived & didn’t go any lower it was just a blast from start to finish & had everything (we could even choose the best room to photograph Heather getting ready, how cools that!) all finished off with a amazing light show to really set off this beautiful venue
I hope to be working in the future with this venue & staff & have to say I am really looking forward to it.

Michael & Lisa's Wedding

Well another wedding, and another day dodging the showers, but one thing I love about our couples is that no matter the weather they still enjoy themselves totally & this was the case with Michael & Lisa and they really gave us some great shots. Their wedding was at Rainford Parish Church & the reception in the Laureate Restaurant at Kilhey Court Hotel with its views over the gardens.
Now I have to admit when we left I felt a little sorry for Michael as after a great Dads speech & a very emotional, from the heart speech by Michael he was the destroyed by a Bestmans speech including the groom singing his nemesis song, hilarious.

Kodak/MPA UK Wedding Photographer of the Year 2010 Finals

This year seems just to get better & better, I have been informed that I have been selected as one of the final 5 photographers for Kodak/MPA UK Wedding Photographer of the Year 2010. The Winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony on the 17th October at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham, so fingers crossed.

Keith & Lisa's Wedding at West Tower Country House

Jane & I had been looking forward to this wedding ever since the pre wedding shoot we did nearly a year ago with Keith & Lisa. The venue for their wedding was West Tower, one of the most gorgeous venues in the north west. There is so much as a photographer you can do here, the staff are super helpful & food is fantastic. Both Keith & Lisa looked amazing and were a joy to photograph ( and her mum makes a mean bacon barm aswell,happy days)

James & Leah's wedding at Bartle Hall nr Preston

I have to say this wedding had everything apart from the weather, it was torrential all day, but it was still one of the most loving, fun weddings we have shot. James & Leah just accepted the weather because the real reason for the day was to start their new journey as man & wife, and their love for each other really made this a special wedding not only for family & friends but also Jane & myself.
James & Leah married at the impressive St Wilfrids Church in Standish & then onto Bartle Hall nr Preston, our first visit to this venue. Jane & I really enjoyed this wedding not only were James & Leah were a joy to photograph, but also the weather made us try new ideas, new angles & new techniques & for this reason this wedding will always have a soft spot in my thoughts.

Norman & Joanna's wedding at Beeston Manor

When Jane & I left the studio for Norman & Joanna’s wedding the heavens were pouring but on arrival at Joanna’s parents the rain stopped & held off until the evening. The day was great with the guests really getting involved with just enjoying themselves & making this a day for Norman & Joanna to remember.
The reception was another new wedding venue for us, Beeston Manor in Lancashire. The owners really have put their heart & soul into this venue & chatting with them after have made a lot of sacrifices to establish their dream (That so rings true with Jane & myself).

Matt & Michelle's Wedding at Kilhey Court Wigan

Matt & Michele’s wedding took place at the historic St Thomas the Martyr church in picturesque Up Holland, parts of the church date back over 800 years (apparently??). Jane was met by a very relaxed Michelle & Henry their cute little son I met up with Matt at the church with his mates in party mood. This wedding was always going to be a laugh & really didn’t disappoint even to the point where at one moment we had to stop taking photos for laughing. The reception was at Kilhey Court Hotel with its glorious gardens the day just flowed…. Even the weather was great.

David & Jennifer’s wedding found Jane & I back at one of our fave venues, the stunning Thornton Manor. Jennifer was a joy to photograph so calm & relaxed, but not without the odd tear as she walked up the stunning aisle to meet David.
The weather was glorious & a gorgeous evening sunset turned into a great party in the grand hall. A fantastic day at a fantastic venue. Thanks go to David & Jennifer for loving the photography at their wedding as much as we did….. and I saw a ghost, but that’s another story!

Matt & Ruth at Kilhey Court Hotel

Matt & Ruth married at Kilhey Court Hotel in a very relaxed but emotional day, over 200 friends & family joined them including several of our previous couples to make this a memorable day. Our day started with Ruth & daughter,Charlie getting ready at the hotel (we found out just how fiddly buttons on wedding dresses really are!!!) with a proud dad escorting Ruth to a nervous Matt.
Matt & Ruth a so in love & made for some really gorgeous images, a day Jane & I will remember.

Madeline & Stuart’s Wedding at Rowton Hall in Cheshire.

If I was asked to describe Stuart & Madeline’s wedding I would say 90 guests all on their feet dancing & singing along with a ratpack singer, & that was just the wedding breakfast. This was a fun FUN wedding right from the start, Madeline & Stuart are a gorgeous & friendly couple & where a real joy to photograph.
The wedding took place at Rowton Hall a beautiful wedding venue in Cheshire with perfect weather & great guests this was a wedding for Jane & I to remember. One part of the day everybody was looking forward to was the speeches as Stuart had been bestman for his 3 bestmen & they were out for revenge…. & they didn’t disappoint.

Rob & Leanne's Wedding at Briars Hall

The one thing at the moment I can say about our wedding couples is that no matter what the weather they are determined to enjoy their day & realise that its about their love, not how sunny it is. Rob & Leanne’s wedding at Aughton in Lancashire had blustery winds & heavy showers, but at the right moments glorious sunshine, even a passing shower couldn’t deter Leanne’s decision for some shots in a nearby wheatfield (it is now official if you see a crop circle it will have been one of my Brides & I shooting in the field)
Rob & Leanne’s love for each other made for some touching moments during the day & another enjoyable wedding for Jane & myself.

Jules & Tracy's Wedding at Thornton Manor

It was over a year ago when a couple came into the studio to tell us about their dream wedding at the stunning Thornton Manor on the Wirral, and since then Jane & I have met up with Jules & Tracy on many occasions, quite worryingly mainly in pubs over lunch. Since that first meeting we became friends & that was how it felt when we left the studio on a sunny Thursday morning to go and shoot our friends wedding.
We were greeted by a very excited Tracy & bridesmaids busy in hair & make up, I think that’s what the TV world call it, and with Jane staying with Tracy I met up with Jules & the lads…. again in the pub.
This was one of those weddings that just fly’s by, a really fantastic set of family & friends determined to enjoy every minute of the day & I have to say that the vows that Jules & Tracy wrote for each other where hilarious & the laughing really never stopped.
A first for us with Tracy joining the band on stage in the evening & as we reluctantly left the party with music & celebrations still ringing in our ears we just kept laughing to each other about what had happened during this great day.
To Jules & Tracy, thanks for the fun & Hospitality & for the last twelve months in general. See you soon. Dx

Kevin & Michelle's Wedding at Isla Gladstone in Liverpool

When Jane & I first met Kevin & Michelle in the studio the brief for their wedding was ‘no long drawn out group photos’ they wanted to just relax & enjoy themselves with their friends. The wedding was an outdoor event (very brave for the current weather fiasco we are having since the hosepipe ban) at the impressive Isla Gladstone in Liverpool, but the day turned out to be a glorious sunny day filled with the scouse humour. Many years ago I used to work in Liverpool & the one thing I remember from the city is its humour & this was on show. Michelle looked stunning with an amazing pair of personally designed shoes, so girls if you want something WOW in the shoe dept give her a call,Kevin owns Nightclubs in the city along with his bestman who I have to say really put a lot of effort into one of the funniest bestman speeches Ive heard, a really funny poem & some hilarious surprises.

Andrew & Stacey's Wedding at Gibbon Bridge Hotel

Another wedding where everything was super organized all we were hoping for was nice weather as Andrew & Stacey opted for an outdoor wedding at Gibbon Bridge in the heart of the Trough of Bowland, a beautiful part of the UK. This was our second outdoor wedding in as many days.
A slight scare when 20 mins before the ceremony the heavens opened but it was only for 5 mins. Stacey looked gorgeous as she with her proud father walked to meet Andrew in the bandstand, just as the sun came out & stayed out. Its been over 5 years since the last time I was at Gibbon Bridge & cant wait to get back there this is a great wedding venue.

Philip & Donna's Wedding at Knowsley Hall

The weather at the moment in the North West is shall we say changeable, ever since the hosepipe ban its poured down, but so far we have been lucky. Donna & Philips wedding was at the stunning Knowsley Hall,our second wedding there in as many weeks,and when Jane & I left to meet Donna at Knowsley Hall where she was getting ready it was pouring down as we arrived the rain stopped, phew!
Philip is a Director for Arriva buses so guess how the guests arrived at church & Knowsley Hall… yes bus, a red London bus to be precise.
This wedding was a fun casual affair, no time constraints, no formalities, no sit down meal just waitress walking round with canapés ranging from fish & chips & sandwiches’ to gorgeous puddings, with entertainment provided by magicians & musicians, a really relaxed day, infact the only real challenge I had was not mixing the groom with his twin brother who was bestman.
Philip & Donna are fun people & a joy to be with, made even more fun by a 12 min choreographed first dance, this must have taken some practise & was brilliant, I couldn’t stop laughing.

Kev & Jenny's Wedding at Knowsley Hall

I have a new favorite wedding location, it’s the stunning Knowsley Hall on the outskirts of Liverpool, the location for Kev & Jennys wedding reception. Now the keen eyed blog watchers may recognize Jenny as she was chief bridesmaid at Mark & Leannes wedding the week before but even though Kev & Jenny loved our style of photography I was determined to shoot both weddings differently yet still in our fun,relaxed style.
Jane photographed Jennys preperations & leaving the largest bridal suite ever at Knowsley Hall whilst I went to St Bartholomews to shoot Kev & the lads. St Barts is a stunning church to photograph inside & out with great architecture & lighting.
Kev & Jenny are a joy to be with & so easy to photograph & are so much in love that the emotions of the day flowed, this wedding was just an emotional, funny, visually stunning rollercoaster of a day all topped of with a few tears here & there.
I have blogged Mark & Leannes wedding along with Kev & Jennys wedding as unknown to them at the time of booking they will be spending a few days in the same location on their honeymoon travels & meeting up, so they will be able to see our fave images from their weddings at the same time, infact in these 2 weddings I shot some of my fave images of the year. Mark & Leanne's Wedding at Kilhey Court Hotel

I really do love bride & Grooms who understand the importance of photography on their day, the emotions & memories that their images will give them for a lifetime, and this was the case with Mark & Leanne who's wedding took place at St Matthews Church in Wigan and onto our second home Kilhey Court Hotel. From our original meeting the ideas & inspiration that they gave me regarding their wishes for the photography on their day was amazing & on the day it was better than even I expected.
The one thing Mark & Leanne requested was a shoot in a cornfield, my regular blog watchers will know I love cornfields, so this was a joy.
On our way to the cornfield we passed thru the busy motorway underpass where I noticed so great graffiti & shot some great funky urban style images, I do love to shoot weddings in the most unlikely places & at the end of the day I had a content smile on my face.
This was a fun wedding to shoot & along with a great Videographer Mike Roberts the day flew.Nervous speeches & a great first dance added to a wedding that really was fantastic. Thanks really go to Mark & Leanne for having the confidence in Jane & Myself to allow us just to play & try new things.

As we enter our busiest month of the year and shooting some great couples & stunning locations its easy to forget just how good of a journey this job has given Jane & myself so it was nice to receive a lovely thank you card from a gorgeous couple whose wedding we photographed at Christmas. What made this doubly nice was the card arrived at the studio on my birthday (yes I did work on my birthday, and finished late!) & was a real pick me up……

To David & Jane,
What can we say but thank you, thank you, thank you! The Wedding Album is absolutely stunning. We could not have wished for anything more perfect, special treasured memories that we will hold close to us for the rest of our lives.
Thank you for making our day and also the months after so memorable, fun & invaluable. Two very special & talented people who, it goes without saying , we will be recommending to all of our family & friends.

It just goes to show that with some photographers opting for the easy option of just providing the Bride & Groom with their wedding images on just a disc & actually nothing else to show for the money, just how important a wedding album actually is.I have said on many occasions a wedding album is for life, a family heirloom more than just a collection of snaps, and when done properly can re awaken the memories of the best day of your life every time you open its pages.

Stephen & Emma,s wedding at Adlington Hall,Cheshire

Well we are in the middle of our busiest wedding season ever & shooting some fantastic couple is some great venues, & meeting up with old friends aswell, but as the workload increases the blog always seams to fall victim so apologies, must blog faster!!
One of my very fave new venues is the beautiful Adlington Hall in sunny Cheshire, and the wedding of London based Stephen & Emma. Jane & I first met Stephen & Emma when we did the pre wedding shoot at the hall & I’m sure they will agree they were a little nervous about having their photographs’ taken but during the shoot we started to see the real couple. So as the day arrived two very excited photographers we were as we knew this wedding would be special, what we didn’t expect was just how funny Stephen & Emma & their friends are.
A beautiful sunny day, a stunning venue with great, helpful staff & a gorgeous couple made for some really memorable images, all topped of with some of the funniest speeches I have ever heard…. At one point even I had to stop shooting due to laughing

Arran & Adele's Romantic Wedding

Weddings at the best of times can be challenging & when mother nature decides to throw everything at you then you really have to be on the ball. Adelle had always wanted a horse & carriage for her dream day & sure enough as she left home with dad the sun shone & wow what a sight as she arrived at the church to marry a very relaxed Arran.
A downpour greeted us as we walked out of church but as with the strange weather we are having at the moment it instantly stopped & out came the sun, this was the story for the whole day.
I am fast becoming a fan of entertainment during the wedding breakfast & this was a real fun moment with the singer really getting guests in the mood for the speeches & evening party in the marquee.

St Teresa's Church in Up Holland is beautiful inside but also has one of the friendliest priests I have ever met, a real joy to work with, as where Mark & Lisa.Lisa's father is also the organist so after a proud father walked his daughter up the aisle it was a quick rush upstairs for the first hymn.The reception was at the equally impressive Shaw Hill Golf Club where very emotional speeches were ended by a hilarious best mans speech.

Paul & Sarah's wedding was held at St Annes Church in Turton with stunning views over the moors & a reception at Mitton Hall. When Paul & Sarah booked Jane & I to shoot their wedding Sarah hoped it would be a glorious sunny day and so it was and very hot,Perfect for drinks on the veranda over looking the beautiful ribble valley. A very friendly set of guests intent on enjoying the day,location & weather made this wedding a joy.

Richard & Suzanne's Wedding at The Inn At Whitewell

A few weeks before Richard & Suzanne's wedding we arranged to meet at their beautiful venue for a pre wedding shoot & a chat.As we drove thru the stunning Ribble Valley countryside we started to fall in love with the area and still felt the same as we arrived at The Inn At Whitewell for the wedding.Richard & Suzanne are a really cool,fun couple & gorgeous aswell the day was just fun from start to finish.Richard and his mates squeezed into their room getting ready & Suzanne in a huge room with views over the river & countyside putting on the most stunning Jenny Packham dress making for some beautiful images.This was my first visit to the Inn at Whitwell but defiantly not the last, weddings here are fun relaxed & stunning, Jane & I are even planning a visit just to chill for a day... yes its that good.

Wrightington Hotel & Country Club with Steve & Nicola

Even the rain couldn't put a dampener on Steve & Nicola's big day in fact the bright colours chosen for the theme made the day more like a wedding abroad. A lovely service with the church full of friends & relatives determined to make this a great day.Weather is the one thing that couples when booking their wedding cant control so I was so impressed that Nicola wasnt bothered one bit, just determined to get married & have a great party.
Wrightington Hotel is a modern, friendly hotel with bright rooms & walkways great for shooting weddings on a wet day & it was great to see Helen back again after her time off.

A hot HOT sunny day for John & Rebecca’s wedding at the beautiful St James Church in the village of Wrightington with the reception at Briars Hall in Lathom. The church has fantastic views infact the sky was so clear you could see Blackpool Tower on the coast.
Rebecca has great taste, and with a stunning dress & bridesmaids in Audrey Hepburn styled dresses we shot some great images.

As soon as Jane & I arrived at Wentbridge House in West Yorkshire we could see why Matt & Sarah had decided on this stunning location.We were met by a very excited wedding party relaxing in the bar the day before the wedding & after about 10 mins knew the day would be special. A beautiful Yorkshire morning greeted us (and a Yorkshire breakfast…phew) the day turned out just how I like them, everybody enjoying the day, the fun & laughter.
Matt & Sarah had, earlier in the year, had a pre wedding shoot at our studio & they would agree that they were a bit apprehensive about having their photos taken, but on the day they were amazing, such a joy to work with and some images they & I will treasure.

Mark & Lucia's Wedding at Haigh Hall Country Park

Our day started in the penthouse suite of the DeVere hotel in Bolton & ended in a sing song overlooking where Jane & I live. Some of the weddings Jane & I shoot require overnight stays,long journeys etc but Mark & Lucia’s wedding was at St Peters in Hindley & the reception at the stunning Haigh Hall, which I can see from our house, so this was a local job to say the least.
Mark & Lucia booked me as they didn’t want the standard cheesy images that you can get, but images to reflect the joy of their family & friends, some of who had made the journey from London where Mark & Lucia live, to celebrate their big day. A trip to the wonderfully scenic canal that flows thru the hall grounds was an added bonus and we shot some gorgeous images here.
One of the joys of my job is that no two weddings are the same & are always throwing up surprises and this wedding was no different, so half way through the speeches two singers, planted as guests, started what can only be described as an hilarious sing song with everybody joining in, it was great.

Just had to post a testimonial left on a forum about us...

When my husband and I started looking for our wedding photographer, I booked several appointments with various photographers from all over the north west, all offering different packages, prices and different styles. As soon as I checked out Classic Photography's website I was excited to meet David, and the see the packages he had on offer, I was really impressed at the different options he had suiting all budgets. I didn't feel pressurized into choosing one of the higher priced ones like I had felt with other photographers. He answered all the questions we had, and even took time to find a sample album from the venue where we were getting married. After paying our deposit and booking it all in, I was confident our wedding Album was going to be something special, and I was definitely right. Amazing, Wow, Different, Modern, Beautiful, Perfect are all the phrases I've heard when people look through my album. David & Steph's Sunny Wedding

Perhaps it’s the naf winter/spring with all its snow & ice but I really am enjoying the warm sunshine that has greeted us on weddings lately, so another beautiful day at St Matthews Church for David & Steph’s wedding.St Matthews was one of the first churches I shot a wedding at the start of my photography journey,and is still a busy church with another wedding before ours.
The reception was held in the marquee at The Thistle Hotel in Haydock , Cath & the team always do a great job with their weddings & everything ran on time.
David had stated that he was nervous about his speech, don’t know why he delivered a good one.
This really was an enjoyable wedding for us to shoot & have some ( even if I say so myself) gorgeous images…well it was easy David & Steph are gorgeous.

2010 Photography Awards..And The Winner Is..... Me

Well this dream continues… On Saturday evening the North West Professional Photography Awards were held at a black tie event in Warrington. Professional Photographers from Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, North Wales & Wigan all descended on the Park Royal Hotel for the Annual Awards ceremony & we did quite well.
I was awarded the Prestigious Wedding Photographer of the Year award..again, the highest award for a Wedding Photographer, a real honour as this award is the result of many categories. Not content with that we also were awarded The Wedding Album of the Year, we won this award for the second year in a row an achievement never done before & this was a proud moment as this reflects on our business in general as wedding albums are a joint effort between Jane & myself.
Then just as things couldn’t get any better, we were awarded the Studio Portrait Photographer of the Year AND The Under 5s (baby) Photographer of the Year. Our portrait side of the business has seen a real increase in demand over that last 12 months & to be recognised in this field is mindblowing. I am asked why do I enter awards on several occasions, quite simply to further & improve our photography. There is so much more to a portrait than a white background & so much more to a wedding than a dress, there is emotion, the story & of course the location. As I have said on many occasion anybody can take a picture but do they look or do they see, awards make us see!

Tony & Kelly's Wedding...A Grand Day Out

One of the best places to be on Grand National day is Merseyside, there is just a buz about the place. Now when Tony & Kelly arranged their grand wedding at the Prince of Wales Hotel, one of Southport’s top hotels, the last thing in their mind was horse racing, but given the town was full of people with the big race on their mind & a rather grand procession to the hotel led by Tony & Kelly in a horse & carriage, Lord Street (the main shopping road in town) was brought to a standstill with clapping & cheering.
A beautiful day for a great couple with a full church, pimms on the lawn, & dancing in the stunning ballroom it really was a grand affair

Simon & Elizabeths Wedding

Mix a great couple, the West End theatre & fantastic friends then you have Simon & Elizabeth’s wedding. The weather forecast for the week had been at best ‘iffy’ but on the day the sun shone everybody was in the mood for fun.I had been looking forward to this wedding as shooting actors, actresses & thespians in general (ooh big word time), the day was allways going to be full of emotion & great atmosphere. It was such a joy to shoot a wedding in the warm sunshine & with such a great couple as Simon & Elizabeth with added entertainment from the bestman, bridesmaids & always up for a laugh Ushers, it didn’t dissapoint.
The day ended with some stunning shots as the sun went down & an evening party with a great band(an x factor finalist no less) everybody partied….

Samlesbury Hall for Stefan & Carly's Wedding

Well after a crazy few weeks its back to the job I love most, wedding photography.A beautiful morning greeted us as we arrived at Christchurch situated on Parbold hill with views all the way to Blackpool & the Lake District.With all the travelling I have done over the last few weeks its easy to forget just how beautiful the North West of England is with its amazing buildings one of which is the 14th Century Samlesbury Hall nr Preston. Stefan & Carly’s wedding was a gorgeous intimate day full of love & happiness with the biggest smile of the day from Carly as she & her proud father walked up the aisle.
One of my joys in photography is meeting new friends & I met a really friendly bunch at Samlesbury Hall,these girls know how to run a wedding and nothing was too much trouble.

Focus On Imaging 2010...phew

I have just returned from Focus on imaging at the NEC in Birmingham.Focus is Europes largest Imaging show and is held annually with over 34,000+ photographers & anybody else involved with the image business all attending to see whats new in the image business as a whole & photography in general.
I was there after being asked by GraphiStudio to present talks about how I do what I do,GraphiStudo are the worlds largest album manufacturer producing the modern contemporary storybook albums that I am proud to show my images in, so it was a real honour to present what I normally would be watching.
I decided to base my talk on real weddings with real couples & the highs & lows of shooting weddings from start to finish, not showing weddings shot on Caribbean beaches with supermodels like the ‘big names’ like to show that will never be available to the majority of photographers (at this point I would like to add that I am available for Caribbean beach weddings of supermodels!!!)
I have to say after a few technical problems with the microphone (yes I do sometimes need one) I had a blast & this was the highest of many highs I have had in this fantastic job of mine.Both of my talks were full & I am pleased that the response has been amazing with some really kind comments so thank you if you attended & I hope that you found some parts useful.
For myself, as I was planning my presentation, it was so inspiring to look back over my journey as a photographer to see just how far the business has moved forward over the last 5/6 years & I now have new incentives & cant wait to get stuck into this years weddings, but the main memory of this years show is the new friends from all over the country I have made and (at the fabulous GraphiStudio meal on the Monday evening) the fact that Jane & I laughed with friends like we hadn’t laughed for ages.

Seems such a while since my last posting but so much has happened over the last few weeks that I really need to pinch myself to find out that this crazy journey I’m on at the moment is real.
The latest is that I have been asked by Graphistudio (the worlds largest wedding album manufacturer) to be the guest speaker on their stand at the NEC at Focus On Imaging, Europe’s largest annual imaging show & talk about how we do what we do.The show,held over four days plays host to over 30,000 vistitors from all aspects of the image industry
The two talks are titled confessions of a wedding photographer & cover everything, from how I started & what makes me click to the finished album including a few secrets along the way.
First talk starts at 12.00 the second at 3.00 on Monday 8th March on the Graphistudio stand, if your there call & say hello. Images will be posted on my facebook page…. Yes were on facebook, well isn’t everybody.

Ian,Louise and Georgie...Gorgeous

Normally the Bride is the star of the show but have to say there was nearly an upset as Ian & Louise’s gorgeous daughter Georgie arrived in her dress. Our second home West Tower for this emotional wedding with personal vows from a gorgeous couple having all in tears and again the weather didn’t let us down, no snow, in fact some guests didn’t know what all the snow fuss was about.
For me the highlight was again the speeches, with a really funny poem given by Ian’s dad & a great Bestman’s speech by Ian’s brother all the way from Australia (yes he said it was cold) all finished by a great evening started by a casino from pier casinos, great company, great food, great casino, great fun, what more do you need…..red 14..red 14…red 14…damn!!!!

Michael & Lisa's Wedding at West Tower

Talk about all the seasons at once, when we woke the morning of Michael & Lisa’s wedding it was thick freezing fog, as we left it was the most perfect winters day. Our brief was relaxed & informal as Michael is not a fan of having his photo taken (but then again neither do I) but I have to say hats to a fantastic couple whose warmth really touched both Jane & myself. West Tower was the venue for this wedding & looking magnificent after its refit (foods amazing aswell) and made for great images as always.
One of my fave images of the day was as we were shooting the room layout & Michael just grabbed Lisa & hugged & kissed the light was just flooding through the window & the image sums up these two perfectly, just in love.

Winter Wonderland for Simon & Joanne

When Simon & Joanne themed their wedding on a winter wonderland i'm not sure that snow & ice was meant to be included, but a winter wonderland was what greeted us at Kilhey Court Hotel.This was our first of a busy run of weddings over christmas & what a start.A beautiful couple made for beautiful images helped by Simon & joanne braving the elements all complimented by ice sculptures & dramatic lighting for the meal.

Professional Photographer Magazine Competition

One thing I hate about the post Christmas period is the sales, so like many a husband I make my way to a book shop or WHSmiths to read through the magazines (I do buy if I like them…honest!)
On flicking through this months copy of Professional Photographer magazine I found that one of my images that I entered for the magazines photographer of the year competition came in the final five & was commended by the judges, the winning image came from a photographer in India (small world) but not being bitter (**?!*) I thought mine should have won.
What’s that I hear you say, what award, what category well it was the er…well…. Ok Travel Photographer of the year, well I fancied a change.

On a more serious note it was a real honour & surprise to be a finalist I couldn’t have wished for a better start to 2010, so down to London at the end of Jan for a presentation evening.

As for the image, taken on one of our recent travels of a Berber Boy in the Red Sea mountains, this kid kept following us around, hiding from us, watching us & as the sun was setting & we were getting ready to leave he just appeared on the ridge. I love the expression, framing & the colours but mainly the memory of a great day that was a hell of a lot warmer than it is at the moment.
